Life at Admiral


In December, 2016 we had a unique idea to recognize our team's hard work over the course of the year by purchasing a holiday turkey for every member of staff, effectively ensuring they had the centerpiece of their holiday meal secured and paid for by their employer. The ensuing turkey giveaway (affectionately dubbed 'Operation Gobble Gobble' was so successful, we decided to repeat it again at the end of 2017. 

Over 400 turkeys at about $25 apiece were purchased from Sobeys on Mumford Road in Halifax and we even went the extra mile...

It has been a decidedly rewarding 2017 for Admiral Halifax and our continued commitments towards corporate social responsibility and giving back to the community at a grassroots level.

Our Charity Champion and Community Chest programs contributed a combined $15,000 towards multiple non-profits, including Easter Seals Nova Scotia, Good Bones Dog Rescue, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Nova Scotia, Laing House and Briony House, among others.

The company announced earlier this fall that all staff at its Nova Scotia office will receive up to five days of additional vacation time, effective January 1, 2018.

For front-line Customer Care Representatives, the provision increases the total amount of annual paid time off to six weeks, when factoring in the company's flexi time program.

Flexi compliments the standard vacation allotment by allowing employees to bank 2.5 hours out of an 80 hour pay cycle and apply it towards further paid time off. Over the course of the calendar year, the program results in a Renewals or New Business employee earning two additional weeks of paid time off, on top of the now standard, four weeks of vacation.

hashtagcontestWhen we issued a challenge to our staff to create a memorable and unifying Admiral Halifax hashtag, we certainly didn't expect the response level we ended up receiving. 

Our goal was a site hashtag that reflects the unique workplace culture Admiral promotes, one where balancing hard work with play is second only to providing a superlative customer experience at every opportunity.

We also envisioned a hashtag our employees could embrace and be proud to use on their social media channels, but one that was unique and decidedly Admiral.

Over 30 suggestions for a winning hashtag were put forward by our employees and after compiling the entries, we sent it back to the workforce to cast the deciding votes on their favourite entries. 

UtBT-PosterIn 2007 Admiral Halifax occupied a small office in a shopping centre with a handful of employees and quiet phone lines - humble beginnings for the Group’s first satellite location.

Fast forward ten years and Halifax now occupies an expansive office space with over 400 staff and handles over 25% of the call volumes in both the Renewals and New Business functions.

It was only fitting that Halifax celebrated a decade of sustained growth and service to the Admiral Group with Under the Big Top - a huge summer party at the Westin Nova Scotian on August 5 and exclusively for Admiral employees and guests. 

AGTlogoAfter a night of fierce competition, five-piece rockers Dagobah System are Halifax's 'Admiral's Got Talent' champions for 2017.

The Halifax leg of the contest, held on June 15 at the Lower Deck in Clayton Park, saw six tremendous acts vie for the title of local champion and with it, an all-expenses paid trip to the UK to perform in the ...Got Talent finals in Cardiff, Wales.

gptw headerFollowing successes from our Spanish and UK counterparts, Admiral Halifax is pleased to announce a placement on the coveted 2017 Best Workplaces in Canada list.

Admiral secured 46th place on the list of Best Large and Multinational Workplaces, released in April.

In earning a spot on the Best Workplaces list, Admiral joins such reputable companies as Microsoft Canada Inc., BMW Canada Inc., and AOL Canada. 

5 Year StaffHalifax employees that started with Admiral in the first half of 2012 were recently recognized with an onsite reception to mark their fifth anniversary with the company.

Over a dozen employees received an hour out of their workday to enjoy a light meal and collect $100 in 'thank you' Sobeys gift cards, along with the iconic five year crystal glass award that every celebrating employee receives.

BfKS1Halifax staff were busy in March, rolling up our sleeves to raise money in support of charitable organizations in the community. On top of participating in a fundraiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation, Admiral was also involved in Bowl for Kids Sake – a fundraiser to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.

As the designated Charity Champion for the month of March, two teams of six bowlers worked hard to raise a combined $1,500 through the sale of raffle tickets, 50/50 draws and other inner-office contesting. The money raised will go towards assisting Big Brothers Big Sisters with future programming and services.

Admiral Halifax’s participation in a fundraiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada was once again an overwhelming success, as our office committed to a purchase of 161 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts to benefit the Foundation's 2017 'One Wish in One Day' annual fundraiser.

That’s a whopping 1932 donuts purchased - which eclipses Admiral's total of 1236 donuts bought in 2016.

Our continued commitment to this charitable cause even landed us some air time on CTV Morning Live where Admiral’s purchase was recognized as being one of the largest of any corporate entity in the Halifax region
