Admiral: Championing Rugby's Growth in Atlantic Canada

We’re proud to be a premiere sponsor of Atlantic Canada’s newest semi-pro rugby club – a partnership that brings exclusive perks to our teams and further cements Admiral as a leading ambassador for the sport in our region.

As a Welsh-based company, rugby is ingrained in Admiral’s cultural DNA. The nation and the sport are indelibly interconnected, and Admiral, as one of Wales’ most recognizable companies, has been a prominent rugby supporter over the last two decades. This started in 2010 as the shirt sponsor of the Wales national squad, and since then our imprint on Welsh RU has continued to expand, including being named the title sponsor of the Welsh national leagues in 2021 – an agreement that runs until 2025.

"If anything, rugby helped create Welsh nationhood. When the game took hold in the last years of the 19th century and thrived in the first years of the 20th, Wales embraced this relatively new sport because it gave a small nation the chance to be on top of the world." – www.wales.com

These partnerships have solidified Admiral as a strong proponent of the growth, visibility and accessibility of the sport, and here in Canada, we’re proud to carry this commitment across the Atlantic.

“We're very keen to position ourselves as a major contributor to the growth of the sport and carry forward the reputation Admiral has built internationally ,” says Admiral Canada Director Rebecca Cable.

In 2022, that pledge took a big step forward with the creation of the Admiral Club at Graves-Oakley: Halifax’s first proper rugby clubhouse situated at the expansive Graves-Oakley site in Spryfield. A multi-year partnership with Halifax TARS RC – the driving force behind the club – sees Admiral as the complex’s title sponsor, helping to bolster the prominence of the area’s rugby community and offering the nearby community a new facility with various spin-off amenities, including public washrooms, a pub, and a place for locals to congregate.

Fast forward to this year, and our rugby portfolio has now grown further with the announcement of a major sponsorship of the Atlantic Privateers RC – Atlantic Canada’s first semi-pro squad.

The three-year partnership brings several benefits to the Admiral camp, including complimentary tickets to Privateers matches for employees, special discounts from co-sponsor Garrison Brewing exclusive to Admiral, and brand strenghtening opportunities at Privateers match ups.

We’re also the presenting sponsor of the 2024 Coast to Coast Cup – a national four-team tournament at The Admiral Club at Graves-Oakley and Wanderers Grounds in June which includes complimentary VIP tickets at no cost to employees eager to catch the action.

Engaging colleagues in the Privateers agreement has taken shape in some fun and unique ways: drawing for Garrison products as part of in-office, game-day "tailgates"; producing bite-sized videos that explain the basics of the game; 'choose the winner' style contests, and of course ticket giveaways.

“This was an easy decision for us,” mentions Cable of the partnership.

“The Privateers showcase top-notch rugby in Atlantic Canada, and as an organization with strong ties to the sport at an international level, we’re eager to support their success and see the positive impacts they’ll have on the rugby community locally.”

An additional contribution from Admiral will see us play a role in developing the future stars of tomorrow with funding also earmarked to facilitate TARS-led provincial youth coaching this summer.

We’re excited to see the continued positive impacts of our Privateers and TARS partnerships – two organizations wholly focused on growing rugby in Nova Scotia and enriching the province's sports landscape.
